Does the library have textbooks I can borrow?
Answer
There is a good chance we'll have a textbook you need for a class in our Course Reserves collection! Course Reserves are textbooks set aside for specific classes and can be found at our Circulation Desk.
Course Reserve items can be borrowed for a limited time to allow access to more students.
Loan periods for course reverses vary and some reserve textbooks are for in-library use only and cannot be taken home. Course reserves are available on a first come, first served basis.
Course Reserve Loan Periods (varies by title):
- 1 hour
- 2 hour
- 4 hour
- 1 day
- 3 day
- 1 week
How to check if the NSC Library has a textbook:
- You can search the library catalog to check if we have a textbook.
- Search for the title of the book. You can also add the author's last name to your search if needed.
- If the book appears in the search results, check to see that it's the edition you need. The edition may appear in the book title or at the bottom of the catalog record.
- Confirm the location of the book to see if the book is available at the NSC Library and whether it is located in our Reserves collection or in the main Circulating collection.
- Visit the library's Circulation Desk to borrow a textbook on course reserve.
Tip! The library sometimes has older editions of textbooks available in the main library collection that can be borrowed for a longer amount of time. Ask a NSC Librarian for help finding an older edition.
Note: We have many textbooks, however, we do not have every textbook for every class. If the library does not have a textbook for one of your classes, we encourage you to talk to your instructor. Ask them to contact the library to discuss putting a copy of the textbook on course reserve.
