Can I request a book that the library doesn't have?

Can the library get a copy of an article that isn't full-text? What is InterLibrary Loan?

Answer

InterLibrary Loan

Edmonds College Library offers InterLibrary Loan (ILL) service to students, faculty, and staff. We can request physical books that the Edmonds College Library does not own, as well as PDF scans of articles from other libraries that are not full-text in our library databases. ILL requests for books can take up to two weeks to arrive, so make sure to start the process as soon as possible. You can place a request by finding the item in WorldCat/OCLC search and then clicking the ILL button or by using the Submit a Question form (make sure to include as much information as you have about the item you need). You can also reach out to your librarian or the Reference Desk for assistance with placing ILL requests.

Please note: We are unable to request textbooks for Edmonds College courses through InterLibrary Loan. There are limits on the number of articles we can request from a given publication. If requests cannot be filled, you will be contacted. Each quarter, there will be a request cutoff date to ensure that items can be acquired before the end of the quarter.

Purchase Request

Edmonds College Library accepts requests to purchase materials from students, faculty, and staff. Suggestions will be evaluated by Edmonds College Librarians. If a recommended title is purchased, the person who requested it will be informed via email. Suggestions can be made by filling out the Book Purchase Suggestion Form.

Please note: Textbooks required for courses at Edmonds College cannot be requested for purchase. See the Textbooks FAQ for more information about getting textbooks.
